Pat Fannon finished second over 6,000 meters in 19:41, five seconds behind freshman teammate Nick Marcantonio
CLINTON, N.Y. – The Cortland men's cross country team finished in first place out of eight schools at the season-opening Hamilton College Short Course Invitational. The Red Dragons placed seven runners in the top 10 and finished with 24 points. Hamilton was second with 57 points, followed by St. John Fisher (104) and Division II schools Mansfield (107) and Le Moyne (124) in the top five.
Freshman
Nick Marcantonio (Glens Falls) finished first in the 85-runner field with a time of 19:36.1 over 6,000 meters at the Hamilton College Golf Course. Junior
Pat Fannon (West Islip) was second in 19:41.2.
Sophomore
Cody Amengual (West Babylon) placed sixth in 20:08.5, senior
Brendan Ward (St. James/Smithtown East) was seventh in 20:26.8 and freshman Jared Iacovelli (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) finished eighth in 20:27.7. Sophomore
Tim Lee (West Babylon) crossed the finish line ninth (20:32.9) and junior
Joe Blazey (Newark Valley) finished 10th (20:35.5).
Four other Red Dragons placed in the top 20. Junior
Tom Hopkins (Syracuse/West Genesee) finished 11th (20:37.0), freshman
Dominic Simeone (Delmar/Bethlehem) was 13th (20:42.7), freshman Matt Savino (Seaford) finished 15th (20:49.8) and freshman
Tim Odin (Northport) was 19th (21:04.1).
Cortland will compete at the Penn State Spiked Shoe Invitational next Saturday, Sept. 17.
