#22 Cortland Top Div. III Finisher at Hamilton Invite

Emily Cotey finished third in the 89-runner field
CLINTON, N.Y. – The Cortland women's cross country squad, ranked 22nd nationally in Division III and fifth in the Atlantic Region, began its season with a second-place finish at the eight-team Hamilton College Short Course Invitational. The Red Dragons were the top Division III finisher with their second-place score of 37 points. Division II Mansfield won the event with 26 points, followed by Cortland, Hamilton (85), Division II Le Moyne (101) and Nazareth (141) in the top five.

Cortland runners claimed three of the race's top five spots. Senior Alyson Dalton (Sherrill/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill), an All-American last season, finished second in 15:26.7 over the 4,000-meter layout at the Hamilton College Golf Course. Mansfield's Brenae Edwards won the race in 14:51.8.

Sophomore Emily Cotey (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk) turned in a third-place time of 15:28.1 and freshman Bori Tozser (Homer) finished fifth in 15:35.7.

Junior Jordyn Naylon (Fairport) placed 13th in the 89-runner event with her time of 16:22.4, followed by sophomore Colleen Fischman (Orchard Park/Hamburg) in 14th place in 16:24.2. Rounding out Cortland's top seven were senior Hannah Hoffman (Rome/Rome Free Academy) in 23rd place (16:55.0) and freshman Jessica Hughes (Pawling) in 26th place (17:11.0).

Cortland will compete at the Penn State Spiked Shoe Invitational next Saturday, Sept. 17.
