GENEVA, N.Y. – Krista Longa scored the game's lone goal just past the midway point of the second half as the nationally third-ranked William Smith women's soccer team defeated Cortland, 1-0, in a game delayed two and a half hours due to inclement weather at the Heron Cup. The Red Dragons fell to 2-2 with the loss, and the Herons improved to 4-0-1.

Pam Monnier (East Northport/Northport) made nine saves in goal to keep the game tight. Kelsey Hill assisted on the Herons' goal, and goalie Amanda Davis did not make a save for William Smith.
After a scoreless first half, the Herons broke through in the 71st minute when Hill assisted on Longa's score off a header, and William Smith made the goal stand up in earning the win.
