Cortland Men Fifth at Penn St. Spiked Shoe Invite

Cody Amengual finished 43rd out of 105 runners in 28:04 over 5.2 miles
STATE COLLEGE, PA. – The Cortland men's cross country team finished in fifth place at the Spiked Shoe Invitational, hosted by Division I Penn State University. The Red Dragons finished with 143 points. Geneseo won the event with 33 points, followed by Dickinson (45), Div. I Ohio University (54), Ithaca (134) and Cortland in the top five. The final team standings featured eight complete teams.

Freshman Nick Marcantonio (Glens Falls) was Cortland's top finisher with a 16th-place time of 27:16 over 5.2 miles. The race included 105 runners. Geneseo's Lee Berube placed first in 27:16. Sophomore Cody Amengual (West Babylon), freshman Jarred Iacovelli (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) and junior Joe Blazey (Newark Valley) all cross the finish line at basically the same time. Officially, Amengual was 43rd (28:04), Iacovelli 44th (28:04) and Blazey 45th (28:05).

In addition, senior Brendan Ward (St. James/Smithtown East) was 52nd (28:19) and freshman Mike Ramos (Middletown/Pine Bush) placed 54th (28:23). Freshman Matt Savino (Seaford) crossed the line in 60th place (28:36), just ahead of sophomore Tim Lee (West Babylon) in 61st (28:37).
