De Luise Nets Game Winner in 1-0 Season-Opening Victory vs. St. Lawrence

Jackie De Luise netted the game-winning goal in the 80th minute
POTSDAM, N.Y. – Senior forward Jackie De Luise (Schenectady/Guilderland) scored the game's lone goal in the 80th minute as Cortland opened the season with a 1-0 victory over St. Lawrence University during Day 1 of Clarkson University's North Country Classic.

The Red Dragons will face Clarkson Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in the predetermined tournament schedule. The Golden Knights blanked SUNYIT, 3-0, in Friday's other contest. St. Lawrence and SUNYIT will play Saturday at 2 p.m.

De Luise took a pass from freshman midfielder Amanda Margolis (Oceanside) and took a shot from the top of the box that rocketed into the corner of the net for the game winner. Graduate student Pam Monnier (East Northport/Northport) made four saves for the shutout and St. Lawrence netminder Abby van Geldern also recorded four saves.

Cortland outshot the Saints, 15-10, and each team earned two corner kicks.
