ONEONTA, N.Y. – Junior Katie Barbagallo (North Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) scored three goals as Cortland shut out host Hartwick College, 5-0, in a non-league matchup. The Red Dragons have won three straight games, two by shutout, and are now 4-3. The Hawks slip to 1-5.

Junior Sara Woodward (Ancram/Pine Plains) recorded a goal and an assist and sophomore Karly Vdoviak (Johnstown) scored once for the Red Dragons. Sophomore Erin Smith (Greene) notched two assists and junior Sam George (Arcade/Pioneer) added one assist.

Junior Emily von Schondorf (Webster/Webster Thomas) started in goal and did not have to make any saves in the first 52:22. Freshman Rachel Moccaldi (Clinton) played the final 17:38 and stopped three shots on goal.

Hartwick starting goalie Megan Campbell made five saves in 52:22 and Devyn Staley registered three saves and did not allow a goal over the last 17:38.

Barbagallo opened the scoring just 2:16 into the game. Smith played a ball from 20 yards out that Barbagallo connected with in front of the cage and put past Campbell. Just under three minutes later, Vdoviak converted on a shot from 10 yards away to the far post left of the keeper.

The score remained 2-0 until 9:26 into the second half when Barbagallo scored again, also assisted by Smith. In similar fashion to the first goal, Smith played a hard ball, this time from the left side, that Barbagallo played in front. In the 52nd minute, Woodward put home a reverse-stick shot off a ball played in by George from the left side. Barbagallo completed her hat trick 30 seconds later off a Woodward crossing pass. Barbagallo and Vdoviak now share the team lead with five goals apiece this fall.

Cortland is idle until a 1 p.m. non-league game Sunday, Sept. 25, at Springfield College in Massachusetts.
