NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Shelby Kondelka recorded a goal and an assist and Beth Bowling scored once as New Paltz shut out visiting Cortland, 2-0, in the SUNYAC women's soccer opener for both teams.

Pam Monnier (East Northport/Northport) made one save and is now Cortland's career saves leader with 264. The previous record of 263 saves was set by Ali Gray from 1999-2002.
New Paltz netminder Stephanie Vega finished with seven saves for the shutout. Cortland lost despite dominating the game statistically. The Red Dragons (3-4-1, 0-1 SUNYAC) outshot the Hawks, 19-8, and earned 11 corner kicks to New Paltz's four. Those totals included a 15-3 shot advantage and a 10-1 corner kick difference in the second half.
Bowling gave New Paltz (5-2-1, 1-0 SUNYAC) the lead in the 22nd minute when she knocked in a shot after an initial attempt by Kondelka rebounded off a Cortland defender. Kondelka netted an insurance goal with 6:56 left in the game off a pass from the right side by Sherri Lajoie.
Monnier's record-breaking save came with just under five minutes left in the first half. Vega made five of her seven saves in the second half.
Cortland will play at Oneonta Saturday at 1 p.m. in a SUNYAC matchup.
