CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cortland claimed five of the top seven individual places and easily won the team title at its own men's cross country Jack Daniels Shoot-Out. Cortland finished with 24 points, followed by Scranton at 61 points. Clarkson (75), SUNY-ESF (115), Mohawk Valley Community College (127) and Ithaca (156) also competed in the 6,000-meter race.
Freshman
Nick Marcantonio (Glens Falls) placed second out of 96 runners in 19:30.9. Clarkson's Alex Benway won the race in 19:12.0.
Sophomore
Cody Amengual (West Babylon) finished fourth in 19:41.7 and freshman
Mike Ramos (Middletown/Pine Bush) was fifth in 19:43.9. Junior
Pat Fannon (West Islip) crossed the line sixth (19:51.6) and junior
Tom Hopkins (Syracuse/West Genesee) was seventh (19:52.0).
Eight other Red Dragons finished in the top 25. Freshman Matt Savino (Seaford) finished ninth (19:53.7), freshman
Jarred Iacovelli (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) placed 11th (20:06.1). Sophomore
Casey Austin (Pine Plains) was 13th (20:09.8), senior
Brendan Ward (St. James/Smithtown East) finished 14th (20:10.8) and sophomore
Brian Hotchkiss (Henrietta/Rush-Henrietta) finished 15th (20:16.0).
Freshman
Dominic Simeone (Delmar/Bethlehem) turned in a 19th place finish (20:29.8), sophomore
Kyle Martin (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) was 21st (20:33.5) and sophomore
Ryan Perry (Buffalo/Williamsville North) finished 24th (20:42.0).
Jack Daniels coached Cortland's men's team for 17 seasons in a 19-year span from 1986-2004 and the women's team for 16 years in an 18-year span from 1987-2004.
