CORTLAND, N.Y. – Four Cortland runners finished in the top six, led by individual champion
Alyson Dalton (Sherrill/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill), and the nationally 26th-ranked Red Dragon women's cross country team narrowly won the team title at its own Jack Daniels Shoot-Out. Cortland finished with 26 points in the five-team meet. Ithaca was second with 34 points, followed by Scranton (98), Clarkson (113) and Mohawk Valley Community College (115).
Dalton finished first out of 92 runners on the 4,000-meter course in 14:44.6, about four seconds ahead of Ithaca's Heidi Baumbach. Sophomore
Emily Cotey (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk) finished third (14:53.0), freshman
Bori Tozser (Homer) placed fourth (14:59.2) and junior
Jordyn Naylon (Fairport) finished sixth (15:23.3).
Cortland placed three other runners in the top 30. Sophomore
Colleen Fischman (Orchard Park/Hamburg) finished 17th (16:00.4), senior
Hannah Hoffman (Rome/Rome Free Academy) crossed the line 25th (16:23.0) and sophomore
Dayna Eikeseth (Staten Island/Tottenville) was 28th (16:26.1).
Jack Daniels coached Cortland's men's team for 17 seasons in a 19-year span from 1986-2004 and the women's team for 16 years in an 18-year span from 1987-2004.
