BETHLEHEM, PA. – The SUNY Cortland men's cross country team tied for sixth place out of 46 schools in the Brown Division of the Lehigh University Paul Short Run. The Red Dragons and the University of Rochester each finished with 323 points, just one point behind fifth-place Rider University. Iona College won the race with 125 points, followed by Binghamton (204), Nebraska Wesleyan (294) and Elizabethtown (298). Cortland defeated 17 of the 19 Division I schools that competed in the race.
Freshman
Nick Marcantonio (Glens Falls) finished 30th out of 382 runners with a time of 26:17 over 8,000 meters. Junior
Pat Fannon (West Islip) was close by in 33rd place in 26:22.
Cortland's next three runners all officially were timed in 26:55. Sophomore
Tim Lee (West Babylon) finished in 85th place, followed by junior
Tom Hopkins (Syracuse/West Genesee) in 87th and freshman Matt Savino (Seaford) in 88th.
Rounding out Cortland's competitors were freshman
Mike Ramos (Middletown/Pine Bush) in 111th place (27:06), freshman
Jarred Iacovelli (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) in 133rd place (27:17) and junior
Joe Blazey (Newark Valley) in 181st place (27:39).
A handful of Cortland's runners competed in the 8,000-meter collegiate open race, led by sophomore
Kyle Martin's (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) 146th place finish out of 452 runners in 27:51.
