Katherine Harris swam the opening backstroke leg on the winning 200-yard medley relay team
CORTLAND, N.Y. – New Paltz won the 200-yard freestyle relay, the meet's final event, as the Hawks edged host Cortland, 134-128, in a dual meet. New Paltz improves to 9-2 and Cortland drops to 3-2 on the season. New Paltz led 123-122 before winning the final relay in 1:39.89, just less than a second faster than Cortland's time of 1:40.81.
The Red Dragons won three individual events and one relay during the meet. Freshman
Michaela Auer (Oswego) captured the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.33), sophomore
Chrisanna Hickey (Hopewell Junction/John Jay East Fishkill) won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:29.69) and junior
Jessica Evans (Hamburg) touched the wall first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.05).
Cortland opened with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay as junior

Michelle Seeger (Oneonta) and sophomore
Sarah Culmo (West Islip) were timed in 1:52.71.
Hickey, in addition to her win in the 200-yard breaststroke, finished second in both the 200-yard butterfly (2:17.15) and 200-yard individual medley (2:15.59). She was edged in the 200 IM by just four hundredths of a second. Culmo was the runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle (24.90) and the 100-yard freestyle (55.39).
Freshman
Krista Caputo (Staten Island/Curtis) placed second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:09.59) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:26.70), while junior
Abigail MacDonald (East Amherst/Williamsville North) finished second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.60) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:15.37). Harris and freshman
Ashley Sherard (Valley Stream) completed Cortland's sweep of the top three spots in the 100-yard breaststroke behind Auer's winning performance. Harris was second in 1:12.15 and Sherard finished third in 1:12.42. Evans, Seeger, Auer and Culmo comprised Cortland's second-place 200-yard freestyle relay squad.
Cortland will compete at the RPI Invitational Saturday at noon and will host Oswego on Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 4 p.m.
