Dylan Scheemaker won the 100-yard butterfly and swam the butterfly leg on the winning 400-yard medley relay
CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland men's swimming and diving team improved to 9-4 with a 134-86 victory over visiting Oswego in the Red Dragons' final home dual meet of the season. Cortland featured a balanced attack as seven Red Dragons earned individual first-place points with event victories.
Junior
Justin Nelson (Jamestown/Frewsburg) won the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:24.49) and finished second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:03.51). Junior
Dan MacQuarrie (Vestal) won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.32) and placed second in the 100-yard butterfly (55.71), while junior
Matt Blaszak (West Seneca/West Seneca East) won the 100-yard freestyle (50.14) and finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.44).
Junior
Dan Maximowicz (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) took top honors in the 50-yard freestyle (22.44) and junior
Ben Strickland (Stanfordville/HomeSchool) won the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.92). Senior
Dylan Scheemaker (Fairport) was the 100-yard butterfly winner (55.24) and senior
Dan Drew (Farmington/Victor) won the 100-yard backstroke (56.24). Senior
Travis Burke (Massapequa) posted the top score as an exhibition entry in both diving events. He scored 301.35 points on the three-meter board and 271.00 points on the one-meter board.
Sophomore
Matt Distler (Glens Falls) finished second behind Nelson in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:32.40), sophomore
Luke Strothenke (New Paltz) placed second behind Blaszak in the 100-yard freestyle (50.71) and senior
Judd Simon (Oneida) was second behind Drew in the 100-yard backstroke (57.20).
Cortland won both relays at the meet. Strickland, MacQuarrie, Scheemaker and Strothenke captured the 400-yard medley relay in 3:40.95, while Blaszak, Strothenke, Simon and Maximowicz won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:17.49.
