Chrisanna Hickey finished first in the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard breaststroke
FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Cortland women's swimming and diving team concluded its dual-meet season with a 152-146 loss at Fredonia. The host Blue Devils clinched the team victory with a win in the 800-yard freestyle relay, the meet's final event. Cortland finishes with a 9-3 record.
Fredonia led 141-140 entering the last relay and won the race in 8:08.60, more than eight seconds ahead of the Red Dragons. The Blue Devils outscored Cortland 32-4 in diving events, compared to a 142-120 Cortland advantage in swimming event points, as Cortland had just one diver competing versus a complete Fredonia diving lineup.
Four Cortland swimmers were double-winners at the meet. Freshman
Krista Caputo (Staten Island/Curtis) won the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:05.52) and 500-yard freestyle (5:26.65) and junior
Abigail MacDonald (East Amherst/Williamsville North) won the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.44) and 200-yard backstroke (2:13.54).
Sophomore
Chrisanna Hickey (Hopewell Junction/John Jay East Fishkill) captured the 200-yard butterfly (2:11.97) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:29.04) and sophomore
Sarah Culmo (West Islip) was the winner in the 50-yard freestyle (25.29) and 100-yard freestyle (54.42). The combination of MacDonald, freshman
Michaela Auer (Oswego), Hickey and Culmo won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:52.75.
Culmo also finished second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:28.89) and Auer was second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.96). Junior
Katherine Harris (Long Beach) was the runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.96). Hickey, junior
Kelsey Roe (Auburn), Caputo and junior
Jessica Evans (Hamburg) comprised the Red Dragons' second-place 800-yard freestyle relay team (8:17.28).
Cortland will send divers to a recently scheduled invitational hosted by Ithaca College on Sunday, Jan. 29, at noon.
