Red Dragon Women Compete at Cortland Winter Invitational

Amber Flint finished third in the weight throw and fourth in the shot put
CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cortland athletes won four events and earned five runner-up finishes as the Red Dragons hosted the second annual Cortland Winter Invitational at Lusk Field House.

Sophomore Sarah Bonnell (Norwich) won the long jump with a leap of 5.43 meters (17' 9.75”) and was second in the 60-meter dash in 8.10 seconds, both ECAC Div. III Championship qualifiers. Senior Jenna Evarts (West Islip) won the 60-meter dash in 8.08 seconds and led off the second-place 4x400-meter relay team (4:19.92) that also included freshman Hannah Anthes (Liverpool), freshman Shay Walker (Harriman/Monroe-Woodbury) and Bonnell.

Junior Amber Stephens (Stony Point/North Rockland) won the triple jump with an ECAC distance of 11.01 meters (36' 1.5”). Sophomore Kelly Hugo (Highland) finished second in both the pole vault at 3.21 meters (10' 6.25”), an ECAC qualifying height, and the long jump at 5.11 meters (16' 9.25”).

Junior Chelsea Lachman (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) won the weight throw (11.93 meters – 39' 1.75”) and finished second in the shot put (11.05 meters – 36' 3”). Freshman Amber Flint (Vestal) placed third in the weight throw (10.53 meters – 34' 6.75”) and fourth in the shot put (9.21 meters – 30' 2.75”), while freshman Valerie Vancol (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) was third in the shot put (10.86 meters – 35' 7.75”) and fourth in the weight throw (9.36 meters – 30' 8.5”).

Senior Brenna Filipello (Selkirk/Bethlehem) finished third in both the triple jump (9.64 meters – 31' 7.5”) and 60-meter hurdles (10.07). Walker and Anthes finished third (8.17) and fourth (8.37), respectively, in the 60-meter dash.

Also for the Red Dragons, freshman Hayley Christiano (Rochester/Hilton) finished third in the pole vault (3.06 meters – 10' 0.5”), freshman Nicole Kulaga (Pine Bush) was fourth in the pole vault (2.91 meters – 9' 6.5”) and freshman Marina Pettinicchi (Bellport) finished fourth in the 3,000 meters (11:58.60).
