ITHACA, N.Y. – Sophomore
Jarred Iacovelli (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) finished first in a field of 38 runners at the Cornell University John Reif Memorial run. Iacovelli covered the soft and wet 5,000-meter course in 17:06.0, a second and a half ahead of the next finisher.
Cortland's next four finishers in the race, which did not feature team scoring, each placed in the top 15. Sophomore
Steven Pungello (Washingtonville) was fourth in 17:16.6, sophomore
Tim Odin (Northport) finished 10th in 17:43.9, sophomore
Joe Ray (Bayport/Bayport-Blue Point) placed 11th in 17:48.2 and freshman
Gavin Shulock (Nesconset/Smithtown East) was 15th in 18:00.0.
Rounding out the Red Dragon contingent were junior
Mike Kelly (Coram/Longwood) with an 18th-place time of 18:05.8 and freshman
Patrick LaChance (Hudson) with a 24th-place effort of 18:41.3.
Cortland will compete next Saturday, October 27, at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships, hosted by Fredonia State University at Lake Erie State Park in Portland, N.Y. The men's race will start at 11 a.m. and the women's race is scheduled for noon.
