NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Cortland, ranked 11th nationally in Div. III, improved to 6-0 in SUNYAC East play with divisional wins over Oneonta and Potsdam. Cortland (27-2 overall) defeated Oneonta by set scores of 25-20, 25-17 and 25-15 and beat Potsdam in three sets, 25-14, 25-18 and 25-13.
The division pool play is being hosted by SUNY New Paltz. Cortland will complete league play for the season Saturday with matches versus New Paltz at 10 a.m. and Plattsburgh at noon. The top three teams from the East will qualify along with the top three from the West for the SUNYAC tournament at the West champion Nov. 2-4.
Junior
Ava Hintz (East Aurora) led Cortland with 13 kills and five blocks versus Oneonta and 12 kills and four blocks against Potsdam. Junior
Aubrey Barrett (Liverpool) had nine kills in the Oneonta match and five kills and five assists versus Potsdam.
Senior
Kristen Guercio (Smithtown/Smithtown East) recorded 41 assists against Oneonta and 31 assists against Potsdam for an average of 12 assists per set over the two matches. She also totaled 10 digs versus Potsdam and nine against Oneonta. Senior
Ashley Coyle (Mt. Hope/Minisink Valley) had 11 kills and 13 digs in the Potsdam match and seven kills against Oneonta.
Senior
Natalie Zacpal (Islip) finished with eight kills in the Oneonta match and six kills against Potsdam. Junior
Krissy Silk (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) registered a total of 24 digs on the day – 14 versus Oneonta and 10 against Potsdam – and freshman
Kim Givelechian (Roslyn Heights/Herricks) had seven kills and 11 digs in the win over Oneonta.
