NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Cortland men's swimming and diving team opened the 2012-13 season with a 184-110 dual-meet loss at New York University.
Freshman
Mathew Hasbrouck (New Paltz) won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:03.61 and was second in the 100-yard butterfly in 54.44 seconds. Freshman
Andrew Cremer (Blue Point/Bayport-Blue Point) earned a pair of second-place finishes with times of 10:11.67 in the 1,000-yard freestyle and 4:59.47 in the 500-yard freestyle.
Senior
Ben Strickland (Stanfordville/HomeSchool) had the second-fastest time in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:06.02. He scored first-place points as NYU only had exhibition entries in the event. Sophomore
Mark Hanifin (Brooklyn/Ralph R. McKee) finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.53) and freshman
Reeve Callen (Oswego) was second in the 100-yard freestyle (49.73).
Senior
Justin Nelson (Jamestown/Frewsburg) placed second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.10) and senior
Kyle Kaznowski (Kingston) finished second in one-meter diving (277.28 pts.). Cortland also finished second in each relay. Strickland, freshman
Jack Jakubek (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury), Hasbrouck and junior
Matt Distler (Glens Falls) were second in the 200-yard medley relay (1:40.88) and Cremer, Callen, Strickland and junior
Luke Strothenke (New Paltz) has the second-fastest time in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:22.17).
Cortland returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 3, when it hosts Ithaca at 1 p.m.
