Cortland Finishes Strong in 42-28 Win at TCNJ

EWING, N.J. – SUNY Cortland scored three straight touchdowns in the second half to break open a tie game and the Red Dragons defeated The College of New Jersey, 42-28, at Lions' Stadium.

The win kept Cortland undefeated in New Jersey Athletic Conference play at 4-0 and the Red Dragons are 4-1 overall. The loss dropped the Lions 2-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Senior quarterback Chris Rose (Victor) completed 26-of-40 passes for 315 yards and four touchdowns – one each to sophomore Jack Delahunty (East Northport/Northport), senior Mike Humphrey (Le Roy), sophomore Kordel McInnis (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) and senior Dorian Myles (Lackawanna/Hamburg).

Delahunty finished with a career-high 10 receptions for 150 yards. Humphrey caught eight passes for 105 yards and became the 15th player to reach 100 career receptions. He has exactly 100 catches. McInnis caught six passes and Myles led the Red Dragons with 69 yards rushing on 16 carries in addition to his TD catch.

Freshman linebacker Troy Beddoe (Endicott/Union-Endicott) led Cortland with 14 tackles, a forced fumble, a pass breakup and 1.5 tackles for losses. Sophomore cornerback Andrew Tolosi (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) made eight stops and intercepted a pass that he returned 32 yards for a first-quarter touchdown. Sophomore linebacker Jesse Scanna (Holbrook/Sachem North) and freshman safety Andre Green (Philadelphia/Indian River) also made eight tackles each.

TCNJ quarterback Daniel Dugan completed 25-of-41 passes for 256 yards and a touchdown but was sacked four times. Fred Sprengel caught seven passes for 109 yards and a score and Glenn Grainger finished with seven receptions. Justin Donoloski ran for 90 yards and two scores on 21 carries.

Greg Burns paced the Lions with 14 tackles and a forced fumble. Nick Bricker and James Siracusa made 10 stops apiece.

TCNJ led 7-0 early on a Doniloski 2-yard TD run, but Cortland answered with Humphrey's 21-yard scoring catch with 2:52 left in the first quarter and Tolosi's interception return less than a minute later.

The Red Dragon lead grew to 21-7 on a 33-yard Delahunty TD catch midway through the second quarter. TCNJ got on the board 38 seconds before halftime on Doniloski's 6-yard run, then tied the game on the first possession of the third quarter on a 26-yard pass from Dugan to Sprengel.

Sophomore Bronson Greene's (Clifton Park/Shenenedehowa) 1-yard TD run gave Cortland the lead for good with 2:36 left in the third quarter. Less than five minutes into the fourth quarter, McInnis caught a pass in the left flat, broke a few tackles and went in for a 12-yard touchdown and a 35-21 Red Dragon lead.

Myles added to the advantage on a 29-yard screen pass catch-and-run with 5:35 remaining. TCNJ closed with a Dugan 3-yard TD run with 2:17 left. Cortland recovered the ensuing onside kickoff but eventually punted. TCNJ, however, had its final drive stopped by an Anthony Bayer (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) interception.

Cortland will host Brockport next Saturday, Oct. 13, at 1 p.m. and TCNJ will travel to Montclair State Saturday for a 3 p.m. contest.
