Kaleta Hat Trick Leads Cortland Past Morrisville, 5-3

Chris Kaleta scored twice in the first period and completed his hat trick with the go-ahead goal late in the second
MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Senior Chris Kaleta (Hamburg/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) recorded a hat trick, including the go-ahead goal toward the end of the second period, as Cortland earned its first victory of the season with a 5-3 win at Morrisville State. The Red Dragons improve to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in SUNYAC play.

Kaleta also registered an assist as he played a role in four of Cortland's five goals. Senior Michael Lysyj (Hillsborough, NJ/South Shore Kings) and junior Adam Bevilacqua (Toronto, ON/St. Norbert College) each recorded a goal and an assist, while junior A.J. Moyer (Perkasie, PA/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) and freshman Ryan Wagner (Buffalo/Aberdeen Wings) collected two assists apiece. Junior goalie Lyle Rocker (Buffalo/Wisconsin-River Falls) made 35 saves.

Morrisville (0-7, 0-6 SUNYAC) was led by Mike Dolman's goal and two assists. Jamie Nelson and Michael Markowitz each scored once and Christopher Azzano finished with 36 saves.

The Mustangs took a 1-0 lead just 42 seconds into the game on a Markowitz goal, assisted by Dolman. Kaleta tied the game with 6:24 left in the first on a power play with Cortland skating 4-on-3. Wagner and Moyer assisted on the score. Another Kaleta power-play tally, again assisted by Wagner and Moyer, gave the Red Dragons a 2-1 lead with 1:31 remaining in the period.

Cortland's lead grew to 3-1 on a short-handed goal by Bevilacqua 1:19 into the second period. Morrisville rallied to tie the game on goals by Nelson at the 6:34 mark and Dolman, with Morrisville up 4-on-3, at the 8:50 mark of the second.

Kaleta completed his hat trick with a goal off a Lysyj assist with 3:53 left in the second and each team down a skater. Lysyj provided a key insurance goal, off assists from Bevilacqua and Kaleta, with 4:47 remaining in the contest.

Cortland will host Fredonia on Friday, Nov. 16, and Buffalo State on Saturday, Nov. 17, in SUNYAC contests. Both games start at 7 p.m.
