Two Cortland Women Earn All-Region Cross Country Honors; Red Dragons Ninth as Team

Senior Jordyn Naylon earned all-region honors for the second straight season
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Cortland women's cross country team finished in ninth place out of 39 schools at the NCAA Div. III Atlantic Regional Championships hosted by the University of Rochester. St. Lawrence won the title with 49 points, followed by Geneseo (135), NYU (154), Rowan (182) and Ithaca (221) in the top five. The Red Dragons scored 236 points as a team.

St. Lawrence and Geneseo earn automatic bids to next week's NCAA Div. III Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., by virtue of their top-two finishes. The next three finishers – NYU, Rowan, and Ithaca – are eligible for at-large berths, which will be announced Sunday on NCAA.com.

Two Cortland runners earned all-region honors with top-35 individual finishes at the Genesee Valley Park course. Junior Emily Cotey (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk) finished eighth in a field of 277 runners in 22:18.6 over 6,000 meters. Senior Jordyn Naylon (Fairport) was 12th overall in 22:25.2. St. Lawrence junior Amy Cymerman won the race in 21:37.5.

Cotey is guaranteed a spot at next week's nationals as an individual qualifier. The top seven runners from schools that do not qualify as a team earn national berths. Naylon has a chance to go to nationals based on which schools earn at-large berths. If NYU and Rowan are both chosen as team entries, Naylon will be the final individual qualifier.

Cortland's other three scorers all finished in the top 100. Freshman Kerri Culhane (Sayville) placed 58th in 23:28.2, sophomore Kelly Bromm (Washingtonville) was 73rd in 23:45.8 and freshman Nicole Bermudez (Lindenhurst) crossed the finish line in 94th place (24:03.0). Rounding out Cortland's competitors were freshman Kayla Blomback (Orchard Park) in 102nd place (24:07.1) and freshman Danika Ortiz (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) in 127th place (24:28.5).
