Jessica Evans won the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard freestyle, each by less than three tenths of a second

Jessica Evans (Hamburg) each won two events as Cortland opened the home portion of its schedule with a 162-138 dual-meet loss to Ithaca College. The Red Dragons are now 0-2 and Ithaca is 3-0.
Caputo won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:08.39 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:22.01. Evans won a pair of tight decisions. She claimed the 100-yard freestyle in 55.85 seconds, just 12 hundredths of a second ahead of the runner-up, and her time of 1:02.50 in the 100-yard butterfly was 27 hundredths of a second in front.
Three other Red Dragons posted individual victories. Sophomore
Michaela Auer (Oswego) won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.40), junior
Sarah Culmo (West Islip) was the 50-yard freestyle winner (25.32) and freshman
Miranda Fergus (Pleasant Valley/Millbrook) won 3-meter diving (239.15 points). Cortland also won the 200-yard medley relay by three tenths of a second as senior
Kelsey Roe (Auburn), Auer, junior
Chrisanna Hickey (Hopewell Junction/John Jay East Fishkill) and Culmo posted a time of 1:53.53.
Hickey earned two runner-up finishes with times of 2:20.61 in the 200-yard butterfly and 2:33.69 in the 200-yard breaststroke. Sophomore
Ashley Sherard (Valley Stream) placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.10) and the 400-yard freestyle relay of Evans, junior
M.K. Dugue (Binghamton/Chenango Forks), Auer and Culmo finished second in 3:52.25.
Cortland will compete at Geneseo next Saturday, Nov. 10, at 1 p.m.
