CORTLAND, N.Y. – Freshman
Andrew Cremer (Blue Point/Bayport-Blue Point) and senior
Dan Maximowicz (Chenango Forks) each won two events in Cortland's 153-145 home dual-meet loss to SUNY Oneonta. Cortland is now 2-3 and Oneonta improves to 2-1.
Cremer won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:24.60 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:01.19. Maximowicz was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.74 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 47.79 seconds.
Other Cortland winners were freshman
Reeve Callen (Oswego) in the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.34) and senior
Ben Strickland (Stanfordville/HomeSchool) in the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.76), along with the 400-yard freestyle relay team of freshman
Mark Schoenherr (New Rochelle/Iona Prep), Maximowicz, junior
Mark Hanifin (Fort Plain) and senior
Judd Simon (Oneida) (3:16.54).
Hanifin finished second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:01.41), just 22 hundredths of a second behind Cremer, and the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:27.04). Senior
Dan MacQuarrie (Vestal) placed second in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.91) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:23.43).
Cremer, in addition to his two wins, also finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.86), about a half second off the lead. Senior
Justin Nelson (Jamestown/Frewsburg) finished second in the 200-yard backstroke (1:59.20) and also completed Cortland's sweep of the top three spots in the 500-yard freestyle with a third-place time of 5:03.48.
Freshman
Mathew Hasbrouck (New Paltz) placed second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:02.01). Cortland earned the top three spots in the 50-yard freestyle as Maximowicz was followed by Schoenherr in second (22.59) and Callen in third (22.67). The Red Dragons also finished second in the 400-yard medley relay as Strickland, MacQuarrie, Hasbrouck and Callen were timed in 3:38.27.
Cortland returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 12, at the RPI Invitational.
