Tyler Prendergast Sets School Record in Weight Throw at Ithaca Quad Meet

Tyler Prendergast broke the previous school indoor record in the weight throw by three and a half inches
ITHACA, N.Y. – Junior Tyler Prendergast (Waterford/Shenendehowa) set a school record in the weight throw and was one of five Red Dragon ECAC qualifiers at the non-team scoring Ithaca College Quad Meet. Cortland competed against athletes from Ithaca, Oneonta and Div. II Mansfield University.

Prendergast established a new school record with his second-place weight throw of 16.28 meters (53' 5”). The previous mark of 16.19 meters (53' 1.5”) was set by Marcus Matyas in 2005. Prendergast also finished fifth in the shot put with a distance of 13.38 meters (43' 10.75”).

Sophomore Connor Ten Eyck (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) won the pole vault by clearing an ECAC-qualifying height of 4.70 meters (15' 5”) and junior P.J. Flynn (Valhalla) reached the ECAC standard with his winning triple jump of 13.97 meters (45' 10”). Sophomore Kenneth Sinclair (Rochester/James Monroe) placed second in the triple jump at 13.86 meters (45' 5.75”), also an ECAC qualifier.

Junior Stephan Linton (Roosevelt) posted an ECAC-qualifying time of 50.70 seconds to finish fourth in the 400-meter dash. He also finished second in the 200-meter dash in 22.90 seconds, a tenth of a second off the ECAC standard.

Senior Andrew Greenberg (Suffern) finished third in the 200-meter dash (23.25) and fifth in the 400-meter dash (51.71). Junior Bryan Smith (Tully) was second in the long jump (6.48 meters – 21' 3.25”) and sophomore Nick Avossa (Kingston) tied for second in the 60-meter hurdles (8.72).

Freshman Julio Melendez (Valley Cottage/Nyack) placed third in the 800 meters (2:01.26) and freshman Jerel Williams (East Islip) was fourth in the 400-meter dash (51.53). Senior Justin Torres (Rome/Rome Free Academy) finished fourth in the shot put (13.72 meters – 45' 0.25”) and senior Rob Brower (Massapequa) tied for fourth in the pole vault (4.40 meters – 14' 5.25”).

Other Cortland highlights included fifth-place finishes by junior Mike Kelly (Coram/Longwood) in the 800 meters (2:02.22), sophomore Zach Zieniewicz (Seaford) in the 60-meter hurdles (8.77) and freshman Jimmy Moyer (Oneida) in the long jump (6.07 meters – 19' 11”).
