Emilee Gottlieb won the 200-yard breaststroke and finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke
CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cortland posted 11 individual event victories and wins in both relays to defeat visiting SUNY Oneonta, 195-103, in dual-meet action. Cortland improves to 3-2 on the season and Oneonta falls to 1-2.
Three Red Dragons were individual double-winners. Sophomore
Krista Caputo (Staten Island/Curtis) won the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:58.79) and 500-yard freestyle (5:20.30), junior
Sarah Culmo (West Islip) was the 50-yard freestyle (24.99) and 100-yard freestyle (55.24) winner, and freshman
Miranda Fergus (Pleasant Valley/Millbrook) captured both 1-meter (222.90 pts.) and 3-meter (229.75 pts.) diving.
Junior
Chrisanna Hickey (Hopewell Junction/John Jay East Fishkill) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:15.85) and finished second in both the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.94) and 200-yard individual medley (2:19.56). Senior
Abigail MacDonald (East Amherst/Williamsville North) also turned in a trio of top-three finishes with a win in the 200-yard individual medley (2:18.17) and runner-up showings in the 200-yard butterfly (2:17.12) and 200-yard backstroke (2:16.62).
Sophomore
Michaela Auer (Oswego) won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.52), freshman
Katie Cornetta (Gardner, MA) was the 100-yard butterfly victor (1:01.53) and junior
Emilee Gottlieb (Maine/Maine-Endwell) captured the 200-yard breaststroke (2:37.60). Gottlieb also finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.05).
Cortland opened the meet by earning the top two spots in the 400-yard medley relay. MacDonald, Hickey, senior
Jessica Evans (Hamburg) and Culmo finished first (4:09.59), followed by sophomore
Lauren Kaplowitz (Stamford, CT/West Hill), Auer, Cornetta and junior
M.K. Dugue (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) (4:16.50). In the final race of the afternoon, Evans, Caputo, Dugue and Culmo won the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:46.14).
Evans claimed second-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.37) and 100-yard freestyle (56.10). Dugue was second in the 50-yard freestyle (25.93), while sophomore
Ashley Sherard (Valley Stream) finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:37.72) by just 12 hundredths of a second. Junior
Lindsay Wigderson (Webster/Webster Thomas) finished second in 1-meter diving (209.75 pts.).
Cortland swept the top three spots in two races. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Auer and Gottlieb were followed by sophomore
Pam Rebholz (Northport) in 1:12.15, while in the 200-yard breaststroke Gottlieb, Sherard and Auer (2:39.68) were the top finishers.
Cortland returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 13, at Hartwick College.
