Schafer and Harper Among Top Performers for Cortland Women at Ithaca Quad Meet

Nikki Schafer's four top-five finishes included a victory in the 60-meter hurdles
ITHACA, N.Y. – Senior Nikki Schafer (Troy/Columbia) earned four top-five finishes, three with ECAC-qualifying performances, and junior Africa Harper (Bronx/John F. Kennedy) won two events with ECAC times to highlight Cortland's performances at the Ithaca College Quad Meet. The Red Dragons competed against athletes from Ithaca, Oneonta and Div. II Mansfield University. There was no team scoring.

Schafer won the 60-meter hurdles in 9.40 seconds, placed second in the long jump at 5.20 meters (17' 0.75”) and was fourth in the high jump at 1.58 meters (5' 2.25”), all of which meet ECAC qualifying standards. She also finished fifth in the shot put at 9.47 meters (31' 0.75”).

Harper won the 200-meter dash in 26.04 seconds and the 400-meter dash in 1:00.19, both better than ECAC standards. Junior Sarah Bonnell (Norwich) won the long jump at 5.51 meters (18' 1”) and was just edged by Harper in the 200-meter dash, placing second in 26.05 seconds. Both of Bonnell's efforts are ECAC qualifiers.

Junior Kelly Hugo (Highland) won the pole vault with an ECAC-qualifying height of 3.30 meters (10' 10”) and tied for third in the long jump at 5.13 meters (16' 10”). Sophomore Taylor Hudson (Victor) qualified for ECACs with her tie for second in the high jump (1.63 meters – 5' 4.25”) and senior Amber Stephens (Stony Point/North Rockland) placed second in the triple jump with an ECAC distance of 11.09 meters (36' 4.75”).

Senior Abby Vander Veen (Duanesburg/Faith Bible Academy) finished second behind Harper in the 400-meter dash in 1:00.59, missing ECAC qualification by less than a tenth of a second. Vander Veen also finished fifth in the 200-meter dash (27.26).

Freshman Kayla Koelbel (Bradford, PA/Kings Park (NY)) posted two top-five finishes. She was third in the 60-meter hurdles (9.71) and tied for fifth in the high jump (1.53 meters – 5' 0.25”). Senior Alexis Fairbanks (Apalachin/Owego Free Academy) finished second in the mile run in 5:27.17.

Other Cortland top-five finishers included senior Caitlin Triantafillou (Getzville/Williamsville North) in the 400-meter dash (4th place, 1:01.31) and junior Lisa Bodratti (Valatie/Ichabod Crane) in the 60-meter hurdles (5th place, 9.77), along with sophomore Nicole Bell (Rochester/Gates Chili) and freshman Alex Seymour (Etna/Dryden), who tied for fifth in the pole vault (3.00 meters – 9' 10.25”).
