ITHACA, N.Y. – Cortland athletes earned 14 top-12 finishes and posted five ECAC qualifying marks at the Cornell University Kane Invitational.
The Red Dragons' ECAC qualifiers included senior
Ryan Pericozzi (Lancaster) in the pole vault with a second-place height of 4.80 meters (15' 9”), junior
Mike Ofosu (Accra, Ghana/Shaker (NY)) with a fifth-place triple jump of 13.57 meters (44' 6.25”) and sophomore
Tyler Prendergast (Waterford/Shenendehowa) with a sixth-place weight throw of 15.52 meters (50' 11”). Also hitting ECAC marks were junior
Justin Torres (Rome/Rome Free Academy) in the shot put (seventh place, 14.79 meters – 48' 6.25”) and sophomore
Brandon Loomis (Rocky Point) in the high jump (seventh place, 1.99 meters – 6' 6.25”).
Two other Red Dragons earned top-12 showings in the pole vault. Freshman
Connor Ten Eyck (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) tied for ninth and senior
Ken Bucaro (Tully) tied for 11th, both at 4.50 meters (14' 9”), with the places determined by number of misses. In the 3,000-meter run, junior
Joe Blazey (Newark Valley) finished seventh out of 57 runners in 8:52.07 and freshman Matt Savino (Seaford) placed 12th in 8:57.18.
Freshman
James Guarnera (Elwood/Elwood-John H. Glenn) finished eighth in the heptathlon with 3,747 points. His highest point totals came as a result of his 60-meter dash time of 7.58 seconds and his high jump of 1.83 meters (6' 0”). Sophomore
Jared Thomson (Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) finished 10th in the shot put (13.97 meters – 45' 10”) and sophomore
Tim Scheftic (Dryden) placed 10th in the long jump (6.58 meters – 21' 7.25”).
In addition, freshman
Nick Avossa (Kingston) finished 11th out of 38 entrants in the 60-meter hurdles (8.78) and junior
Brent Pavlick (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) was 12th out of 40 in the 5,000 meters (15:57.93).
