Amengual, 4x400 Relay Earn Victories at Cornell Deneault Invitational

Jon Granger placed sixth in the long jump at 22' 0.75", an ECAC qualifier
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cortland men's indoor track and field team recorded six ECAC-qualifying performances at the Cornell University Marc Deneault Memorial Invitational. The meet was the Red Dragons' last tune-up prior to the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships, which will be held next Sunday, Feb. 26, at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, N.Y.

Sophomore Cody Amengual (West Babylon) won the 1,000-meter run in a field of 18 runners with an ECAC-qualifying time of 2:30.62. The Red Dragons also earned a victory in the 4x400-meter relay as junior Eric Banks (Westbury), senior Phill Wiltshire (Vestal), freshman Neil Yodice (Northport) and sophomore Stephan Linton (Roosevelt) posted an ECAC time of 3:20.36.

Junior Pat Fannon (West Islip) finished fourth out of 44 entrants in the 3,000-meter run with an ECAC time of 8:49.03. Three Red Dragons posted ECAC qualifiers in field events. Senior Ken Bucaro (Tully) finished fourth in the pole vault at 4.65 meters (15' 3”), junior Justin Torres (Rome/Rome Free Academy) was sixth in the shot put at 14.62 meters (47' 11.75”) and freshman Jon Granger (Ticonderoga) placed sixth in the long jump with a leap of 6.72 meters (22' 0.75”).

Junior Andrew Greenberg (Suffern) finished sixth of 36 in the 200-meter dash (23.33) and seventh of 25 in the 400-meter dash (52.17). Junior Robert Brower (Massapequa) placed ninth in the 200-meter dash in 52.56 seconds.

Freshman Connor Ten Eyck (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) finished fifth in the pole vault with a height of 4.35 meters (14' 3.25”) and freshman Tim Odin (Northport) was sixth in the 1,000 meters (2:36.52). Sophomore Tyler Prendergast (Waterford/Shenendehowa) and Torres finished seventh (14.20 meters – 46' 7.25”) and ninth (12.61 meters – 41' 4.5”), respectively, in the weight throw, while sophomore Brandon Loomis (Rocky Point) was eighth in the high jump at 1.89 meters (6' 2.25”).

Junior Erik LeRoy (Kings Park) ranked 11th out of 30 in the long jump (6.50 meters – 21' 4”) and sophomore Ryan Perry (Buffalo/Williamsville North) was 12th of 32 in the mile (4:33.31). Junior Shawn Wilson (Seneca Falls/Myndese Academy) placed 12th of 32 in the shot put (12.79 meters – 41' 11.5”).

Other notable performances included freshman Nick Avossa's (Kingston) 13th place showing out of 31 competitors in the 60-meter hurdles (8.79) and sophomore Mike Kelly's (Coram/Longwood) 19th place effort in a field of 43 in the 800 meters (2:01.72).
