Red Dragon Women Record Numerous Top-10 Showings at Deneault Invitational

Liz Henry finished third in the 500-meter dash in an ECAC-qualifying time of 1:21.38
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cortland women's indoor track and field team registered 17 top-10 finishes, 11 of which met ECAC Div. III championship qualifying standards, at the Cornell University Marc Deneault Memorial Invitational. The meet was the Red Dragons' last competition prior to the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships, which will be held next Sunday, Feb. 26, at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, N.Y.

The 4x400-meter relay team of senior Veronica Montrose (Clintondale/Highland), freshman Kiki Jones (Binghamton), sophomore Cait Reilly (Warwick/Monroe-Woodbury) and junior Alexis Grable (Pine Bush) finished first with an ECAC-qualifying time of 4:01.62.

Sophomore Sarah Bonnell (Norwich) and freshman Taylor Hudson (Victor) hit ECAC standards in two events each. Bonnell finished fifth in the 200-meter dash (26.37) and eighth in the long jump (5.21 meters – 17' 1.25”). Hudson was ninth in both the high jump (1.60 meters – 5' 3”) and the long jump (5.15 meters – 16' 10.75”). She almost reached ECAC status in the 200-meter dash as well, placing seventh in 27.10 seconds. The qualifying time in the event is 26.90 seconds.

Sophomore Lexi Budd (Riverhead), like Hudson, also cleared an ECAC-qualifying 1.60 meters (5' 3”) in the high jump and tied for fifth place due to number of misses. Sophomore Kelly Hugo (Highland) was ninth in the pole vault with an ECAC height of 3.30 meters (10' 10”).

Junior Liz Henry (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) finished third in the 500-meter dash with an ECAC time of 1:21.38 and sophomore Trisha Clark (Pulaski) was fourth in the 400-meter dash in 1:00.15, also an ECAC qualifier. Freshman Bori Tozser (Homer) recorded an ECAC time of 3:04.31 to place fifth in the 1,000 meters and junior Jordyn Naylon (Fairport) posted an ECAC standard with her seventh-place time of 2:17.91 in the 800 meters.

Junior Caitlin Triantafillou (Getzville/Williamsville North) placed fourth in the 500-meter dash in 1:22.26. In the 400-meter dash, Clark was followed closely by Grable in fifth place (1:00.53) and senior Abby Vander Veen (Duanesburg/Faith Bible Academy) in sixth place (1:00.58).

Sophomore Cait Reilly (Warwick/Monroe-Woodbury) finished ninth in the 800 meters (2:23.02) and junior Chelsea Lachman (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) was 12th of 28 in the shot put (10.81 meters – 35' 5.75”).

Senior Jenna Evarts (West Islip) and freshman Hannah Anthes (Liverpool) finished 11th (8.24) and 13th (8.29), respectively, in the 60-meter dash in a field of 30 sprinters. In the 300-meter dash, Anthes placed eighth (43.96) and Evarts was ninth (44.32). Also, junior Alexis Fairbanks (Apalachin/Owego Free Academy) placed 13th of 27 in the mile (5:29.41).
