Eric Banks won the 400-meter dash and finished fourth in the 200-meter dash
GENEVA, N.Y. – The SUNY Cortland men's indoor track and field team finished in second place out of eight schools at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships. The meet was held at Hobart and William Smith's Bristol Field House.

Geneseo won the title with 152 points, followed by Cortland with 118 points and Buffalo State with 89. Rounding out the standings were Oneonta (86.5), Brockport (80), Fredonia (46), Oswego (26) and Plattsburgh (24.5).

Sophomore Brandon Loomis (Rocky Point) and junior Eric Banks (Westbury) claimed individual conference titles for the Red Dragons. Loomis won the high jump with an ECAC-qualifying height of 1.93 meters (6' 4”) and Banks won the 400-meter dash with an ECAC time of 49.82 seconds. Cortland also won the 4x400-meter relay as senior Phill Wiltshire (Vestal), freshman Rob Schenke (Kings Park), junior Andrew Greenberg (Suffern) and freshman Neil Yodice (Northport) finished with an ECAC time of 3:24.08.

Senior Ryan Pericozzi (Lancaster) and Brockport's Zach Ferrara each cleared 5.00 meters (16' 4.75”) in the pole vault. Ferrara won the event and Pericozzi finished second since Ferrara cleared 4.85 meters on his first try compared to Pericozzi clearing that height on his third try. Still, the height is a new school record for Pericozzi, and he now shares the conference and meet record in the event with Ferrara.

Junior Pat Fannon (West Islip) finished second in the mile in 4:19.84 and junior Justin Torres (Rome/Rome Free Academy) placed second in the shot put with a distance of 15.42 meters (50' 7.25”). Both performances are ECAC qualifiers.

The individual league champions earn first-team all-league honors, while individual runners-up are recognized as second-team all-conference.

Sophomore Jared Thomson (Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) turned in a pair of scoring performances in field events. He finished third in the shot put at 14.12 meters (46' 4”) and eighth in the weight throw at 13.73 meters (45' 0.5”).

Yodice finished third in the 400-meter dash in 50.71 seconds, while Banks was fourth in the 200-meter dash with an ECAC time of 22.53 seconds. Junior Tom Hopkins (Syracuse/West Genesee) finished fifth in the 5,000 meters (15:23.66).

Cortland captured four of the top eight spots in the pole vault. In addition to Pericozzi's performance, senior Ken Bucaro (Tully) finished fourth with an ECAC height of 4.70 meters (15' 5”). Freshman Connor Ten Eyck (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) and sophomore Tom Calandra (Williamsville/Williamsville North) each cleared  4.40 meters (14' 5.25”).
