Cody Amengual (West Babylon) and junior
Justin Torres (Rome/Rome Free Academy) each posted ECAC Div. III Championship qualifying performances as the Cortland men's outdoor track and field team competed at the Ithaca Invitational. Amengual finished third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in an ECAC time of 9:31.42 and Torres was third in the shot put with an ECAC distance of 14.42 meters (47' 3.75”).
Torres also finished fourth in the discus at 39.56 meters (129' 9.5”). Senior
Alex Williams (Baldwin) earned a pair of to-three finishes with a second-place time of 24.39 seconds in the 200-meter dash and a third-place time of 16.39 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles.
Junior
Shawn Wilson (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) finished in the top five in three field events. He placed second in the javelin (48.53 meters – 159' 2.75”), fifth in the discus (39.18 meters – 128' 6.5”) and fifth in the hammer throw (45.54 meters – 149' 5”). Sophomore
Tyler Prendergast (Waterford/Shenendehowa) finished sixth in both the shot put (13.39 meters – 43' 11.25”) and the hammer throw (43.64 meters – 143' 2”).
Also for the Red Dragons, freshman
Zach Zieniewicz (Seaford) finished fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (16.46), followed by freshman
Oscar Mercado (Medford/Patchogue-Medford) in sixth place (16.55), while sophomore
Mike Kelly (Coram/Longwood) finished ninth of 25 competitors in the 1,500 meters (4:11.29).
