Bonnell, Hudson Among Top Competitors at Army Women's Meet

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Sophomore Sarah Bonnell (Norwich) and freshman Taylor Hudson (Victor) each qualified for the ECAC Div. III Championships in two individual events and two Cortland relays also met ECAC standards at the two-day Army Dick Shea Open Friday and Saturday.

Bonnell won the 200-meter dash in a field of 52 sprinters in 25.86 seconds and was third in the long jump at 5.20 meters (17' 0.75”), both ECAC qualifiers. Hudson finished first out of 30 competitors in the high jump at 5.31 meters (17' 5”) and placed third in the high jump at 1.60 meters (5' 3”), both also surpassing ECAC levels.

The 4x400-meter relay team of senior Veronica Montrose (Clintondale/Highland), freshman Kiki Jones (Binghamton), sophomore Cait Reilly (Warwick/Monroe-Woodbury) and junior Alexis Grable (Pine Bush) finished first with an ECAC time of 4:03.74. The 4x100-meter relay squad of senior Jenna Evarts (West Islip), Montrose, Jones and Bonnell also hit an ECAC mark with a second-place time of 50.28 seconds.

Evarts finished second in the 100-meter dash out of 30 sprinters in 12.83 seconds and was sixth in the 200-meter dash in 26.58 seconds. Hudson finished eighth in the 200-meter dash (26.76).

Junior Caitlin Triantafillou (Getzville/Williamsville North) and junior Liz Henry (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles – Triantafillou in 1:07.56 and Henry in 1:08.89. Junior Amber Stephens (Stony Point/North Rockland) turned in a fifth-place triple jump of 10.47 meters (34' 4.25”) and junior Nikki Schafer (Troy/Columbia) was sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.12).

Four Red Dragons finished in the top 12 out of 38 entrants in the 400-meter dash. Jones was sixth in 1:00.97, sophomore Trisha Clark (Pulaski) placed seventh in 1:01.01, Montrose was eighth in 1:01.22 and senior Abby Vander Veen (Duanesburg/Faith Bible Academy) finished 11th in 1:01.43. Also, freshman Erica Wharton (Putnam Valley) finished ninth in the long jump at 4.94 meters (16' 2.5”).
