GRINNELL, IOWA – Junior
Jordyn Naylon (Fairport) advanced to Saturday's finals in the mile run during Day 1 of the NCAA Div. III Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships at Grinnell College.
Naylon will be one of 10 competitors from the initial field of 15 runners to compete in the finals Saturday at 4:40 p.m. (Eastern). She posted a time of 4:57.43, which was sixth in her heat and ninth-best overall. Liz Phillips of Washington (Mo.) had the best preliminary time of 4:54.81. The top eight finishers in Saturday's finals will be All-Americans.
Sophomore
Sarah Bonnell (Norwich) finished ninth in Friday's long jump finals and missed earning All-America honors by just one centimeter. Her best leap was 5.51 meters (18' 1”), while the eighth-place finisher recorded a distance of 5.52 meters (18' 1.5”). Wartburg's Skye Morrison won the event at 6.17 meters (20' 3”).
In addition to Naylon running in the mile finals, Cortland will also be represented Saturday by senior
Alyson Dalton (Sherrill/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill). She will compete in the 5,000-meter run finals at 6:35 p.m. (Eastern).
