Cortland Men Compete at ECAC Div. III Track and Field Championships

Tom Hopkins earned All-ECAC honors with a seventh-place finish in the 10,000-meter run
TROY, N.Y. – Cortland tied for 32nd place out of 63 teams that scored points at the two-day Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The meet was hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The Red Dragons finished with 10 points. Bates College won the team title with 61 points, followed by Rowan University with 49 points and Ramapo College with 40 points.

Cortland's 4x400-meter relay team of junior Eric Banks (Westbury), senior Phill Wiltshire (Vestal), sophomore Stephan Linton (Roosevelt) and freshman Neil Yodice (Northport) accounted for most of the Red Dragons' scoring with a second-place finish. Their time of 3:14.88 was only 15 hundredths of a second behind Rowan University's winning effort.

Junior Tom Hopkins (Syracuse/West Genesee) earned All-ECAC honors with a seventh-place time of 32:00.77 in the 10,000-meter run. The top eight finishers in each individual event are considered All-ECAC.

Sophomore Stephan Linton (Roosevelt) finished ninth in the 400-meter dash (49.43) and junior Justin Torres (Rome/Rome Free Academy) was 10th in the shot put (15.00 meters – 49' 2.5”). Freshman Connor Ten Eyck (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) tied for 10th place in the pole vault (4.46 meters – 14' 7.5”).

Sophomore Tyler Prendergast (Waterford/Shenendehowa) placed 11th in the hammer throw (49.88 meters – 163' 8”), junior Joe Blazey (Newark Valley) was 12th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:34.98) and junior Pat Fannon (West Islip) finished 26th in the 1,500 meters (4:03.93).

The NCAA Div. III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held May 24-26 in Claremont, Calif. The top 20 performers in each individual event and the top 16 teams in each relay, after all results have been officially reported, will qualify to compete at nationals. Final qualifiers will be announced early next week.
