TROY, N.Y. – Cortland freshman
Bori Tozser (Homer) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase title as the Red Dragons competed at the two-day Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The meet was hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Cortland finished in fifth place out of 55 schools that scored points in the final team standings. Ithaca won the title with 68 points, followed by Wheaton (Mass.) (60), Williams (43), Amherst (40), Cortland (39) and Tufts (36).
Tozser posted a winning time of 10:50.25 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, more than eight seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Junior
Nikki Schafer (Troy/Columbia) finished second in the heptathlon with 4,316 points, just 22 points behind the winner. She had the best high jump among the heptathletes at 1.63 meters (5' 4.25”) and the second-best 100-meter hurdles (15.73).
Freshman
Taylor Hudson (Victor) finished third in the long jump (5.42 meters – 17' 9.5”) and sophomore
Sarah Bonnell (Norwich) finished fourth in the 100-meter dash (12.34). Freshman
Erica Wharton (Putnam Valley) turned in an eighth-place finish in the long jump (5.21 meters – 17' 1.25”). The top eight finishers in each individual event are considered All-ECAC.
Cortland recorded two top-five finishes in relays. The 4x100-meter relay of senior

Abby Vander Veen (Duanesburg/Faith Bible Academy) placed fifth in 3:54.25.
Hudson and sophomore Lexi Budd (Riverhead) tied for 12th place in the high jump, each with a height of 1.54 meters (5' 0.75”). Hudson was also 23rd in the 100-meter hurdles (15.89). Junior
Amber Stephens (Stony Point/North Rockland) finished 15th in the triple jump (10.84 meters – 35' 6.75”), while junior
Christi Nassauer (Mount Sinai) and sophomore
Kelly Hugo (Highland) tied for 17th in the pole vault, each at 3.10 meters (10' 2”).
The NCAA Div. III Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held May 24-26 in Claremont, Calif. The top 22 performers in each individual event and the top 16 teams in each relay, after all results have been officially reported, will qualify to compete at nationals. Final qualifiers will be announced early next week.
