Cortland Men Compete in Four Events at Day 1 of NCAA Championships

Senior Phill Wiltshire finished 12th in the 400-meter hurdles and ran a leg on Cortland's 11th-place 4x400-meter relay
CLAREMONT, CALIF. – Cortland competed in four events during the opening day of competition at the NCAA Div. III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The 4x400-meter relay team of junior Eric Banks (Westbury), senior Phill Wiltshire (Vestal), sophomore Stephan Linton (Roosevelt) and freshman Neil Yodice (Northport) finished 11th in 3:15.97. They missed qualifying for Saturday's finals by two places and less than half a second.

Cortland's three individual competitors Thursday also failed to score in their events. Wiltshire finished 12th in the preliminaries of the 400-meter hurdles in 54.07 seconds, about seven tenths of a second shy of qualifying for the finals. Senior Tomas Velasquez (Catskill) placed 18th in the long jump finals at 6.95 meters (22' 9.75”) and sophomore Cody Amengual (West Babylon) finished 18th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase preliminaries in 9:44.86.

Senior Will Razzano (Manorville/Riverhead) is the Red Dragons' lone remaining competitor. He will participate in the triple jump on Saturday at 12:50 p.m. (3:50 p.m. Eastern).
