Ninth-Ranked Red Dragons Place Fifth at Yellowjacket Invite

Cody Amengual paced Cortland's contingent with a 20th-place time of 25:56.6
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The nationally ninth-ranked Cortland men's cross country team placed eight runners in the top 65 in a field of 333 competitors to earn a fifth-place finish at the University of Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational.

Cortland finished with 128 points, just nine points behind fourth-place Dickinson, 13 behind third-place Rochester and 23 shy of second-place Geneseo. Div. I Cornell easily won the title with 15 points.

Junior Cody Amengual (West Babylon) posted a 20th-place time of 25:56.6 over 8,000 meters, just one second ahead of senior Tom Hopkins' (Syracuse/West Genesee) 21st-place time of 25:57.6. Sophomore Nick Marcantonio (Glens Falls) finished 23rd in 25:58.6.

Senior Brent Pavlick (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) and junior Tim Lee (West Babylon) finished 47th and 48th, respectively. Pavlick crossed the line in 26:25.3 and Lee finished in 26:26.6. Senior Joe Blazey (Newark Valley) was 52nd (26:29.3), sophomore Jarred Iacovelli (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) placed 58th (26:34.1) and junior Casey Austin (Pine Plains) finished 65th (26:37.2).

Cortland will host the Jack Daniels Shoot-out, named for the Red Dragons' former legendary head coach, next Saturday. The men's race is scheduled for 11:15 a.m., with the women's race first at 10:30 a.m.
