ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Three Cortland runners placed in the top 60 as the Red Dragons finished in 10th place out of 23 teams at the University of Rochester Yellowjacket Invitational. Cortland posted a score of 307 points, three ahead of 11th-place New Paltz. Div. I Cornell won the meet with 15 points, followed by St. Lawrence (75) and Dickinson (155).
Junior
Emily Cotey (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk) finished 44th in a field of 360 runners with a time of 23:11.7 over a 6,000-meter course. Cornell's Rachel Sorna won the race in 20:47.3 Senior
Jordyn Naylon (Fairport) placed 58th in 23:27.7 and freshman
Kerri Culhane (Sayville) was 60th in 23:29.2.
Rounding out Cortland's top five were senior
Alexis Fairbanks (Apalachin/Owego Free Academy) in 134th place (24:27.6) and freshman
Danika Ortiz (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) in 148th place (24:36.7). Also affecting the team scoring were freshman Nicole Bermudez (Lindenhurst) in 149th place (24:38.3) and junior
Colleen Fischman (Orchard Park/Hamburg) in 150th place (24:38.9).
Cortland will host the Jack Daniels Shoot-out, named for the Red Dragons' former legendary head coach, next Saturday. The women's race will start at 10:30 a.m. and the men's race will begin at 11:15 a.m.
