CORTLAND, N.Y. - Cortland's top seven runners finished in the top 10 as the nationally 14th-ranked Red Dragon men's cross country team won the eight-team Jack Daniels Shoot-Out. The race is named for Cortland's former head coach and is held on the back portion of the campus and in the neighboring Cortland Water Works.
Cortland finished with 15 points, followed by Clarkson with 66 and SUNY-ESF with 71.
Senior
Tom Hopkins (Syracuse/West Genesee) won the 6,000-meter race in 18:52.70, about five seconds ahead of former Red Dragon runner Justin Wager, who ran as an unattached entry. Sophomore
Nick Marcantonio (Glens Falls) finished third in 19:01.40, followed by junior
Cody Amengual (West Babylon) in fourth (19:10.60) and junior
Casey Austin (Pine Plains) in fifth (19:22.80).
Junior
Tim Lee (West Babylon) finished seventh overall, and was the fifth collegiate finisher, in 19:29.00. Senior
Joe Blazey (Newark Valley) crossed the finish line ninth (19:32.00) and sophomore
Jarred Iacovelli (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) placed 10th (19:45.80).
Cortland will compete at the Lehigh University Paul Short Run on Friday, Sept. 28.
