BETHLEHEM, PA. – The Cortland women's cross country squad placed 12th out of 39 schools and was the third highest Div. III finisher in the Brown Division of the Lehigh University Paul Short Run. The Red Dragons scored 424 points, while the University of Pittsburgh won the race with 124 points.
Among the schools Cortland defeated were Division I opponents Monmouth (N.J.), South Florida, Towson, Canisius, Temple, Lafayette, Niagara and Manhattan.
Junior
Emily Cotey (Norwood/Norwood-Norfolk) finished 19th in a field of 342 runners with her time of 22:33 on the 6,000-meter course. She had finished 32nd last year in 23:04. Senior
Jordyn Naylon (Fairport) also showed marked improvement with her 41st place finish in 23:05. She was 104th in 2011 in 23:59.
Three freshmen rounded out Cortland's top five finishers.
Kerri Culhane (Sayville) placed 94th in 23:49,
Kayla Blomback (Orchard Park) was 137th in 24:10 and Nicole Bermudez (Lindenhurst) finished 140th in 24:14. Completing the Red Dragon top seven were senior
Alexis Fairbanks (Apalachin/Owego Free Academy) in 178th place (24:35) and junior
Colleen Fischman (Orchard Park/Hamburg) in 181st place (24:36).
Ten Cortland runners competed in the 6,000-meter collegiate open race, led by sophomore
Kelly Bromm's (Washingtonville) 124th-place time of 24:27 out of 293 entrants.
Cortland will next compete at the St. Lawrence University Hoffman Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 6.
