CLINTON, N.Y. – Cortland runners claimed seven of the top eight spots as the Red Dragons easily won the team title at the three-team Hamilton College Men's Cross Country Short Course Invitational at the Hamilton College Golf Course. Sophomore
Nick Marcantonio (Glens Falls) was the individual champion out of 34 runners on the 6,000-meter course in 19:13.1.
Cortland finished with 19 points, followed by Hamilton with 44 and Division II Le Moyne College with 85.
Senior
Tom Hopkins (Syracuse/West Genesee) finished third in 19:29.2, followed by junior
Cody Amengual (West Babylon) in fourth (19:35.9) and senior
Joe Blazey (Newark Valley) in fifth (19:38.0).
Junior
Casey Austin (Pine Plains) placed sixth in 19:43.8, senior
Brent Pavlick (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) was seventh in 19:49.6 and sophomore
Jarred Iacovelli (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) rounded out Cortland's top seven runners with an eighth-place time of 19:51.9.
Cortland will compete at the University of Rochester Invitational next Saturday. Rochester will also be the site of the NCAA Div. III Atlantic Regionals on Nov. 10.
