Cortland Men Lose Dual at Hartwick, 177-97

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Cortland men's swimming and diving team lost a dual meet at Hartwick College, 177-97, despite individual victories by senior Justin Nelson (Jamestown/Frewsburg) and senior Dan Maximowicz (Chenango Forks). The Red Dragons are 8-5 on the season.

Nelson won the 200-yard backstroke in 1:59.32 and Maximowicz was the 50-yard freestyle winner in 22.04 seconds. Cortland also won the 200-yard freestyle as junior Mark Hanifin (Fort Plain), freshman Mathew Hasbrouck (New Paltz), freshman Andrew Cremer (Blue Point/Bayport-Blue Point) and junior Gregory MacDonald (Monroe Township, NJ/St. Joseph's) finished in 1:31.96.

Freshman Reeve Callen (Oswego) finished second in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.63) and 100-yard freestyle (48.99). Senior Dan MacQuarrie (Vestal) placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:19.43) and senior Judd Simon (Oneida) was the runner-up in the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.19).

Cortland opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay as senior Ben Strickland (Stanfordville/HomeSchool), MacQuarrie, junior Brandon McManus (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) and Maximowicz turned in a time of 1:39.83.

Cortland will compete in a dual meet at SUNY New Paltz on Friday, Jan. 18, at 4 p.m.
