Cortland Women Lose Dual Meet at New Paltz, 148-111

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Junior Sarah Culmo (West Islip) and sophomore Michaela Auer (Oswego) each won individual events in Cortland's 148-111 dual-meet loss at New Paltz. The Red Dragons are now 3-4 on the season and will compete at the RPI Invitational Saturday at noon.

Culmo won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.40 seconds and finished second in the 100-yard freestyle in 55.27 seconds. Auer was the 100-yard breaststroke winner in 1:11.82.

Senior Abigail MacDonald (East Amherst/Williamsville North) turned in the second-fastest time in three events. She was runner-up in both the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.90) and 200-yard backstroke (2:17.34) and finished behind an exhibition entry from New Paltz in the 200-yard individual medley (2:19.27).

Sophomore Ashley Sherard (Valley Stream) placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:37.56) and senior Jessica Evans (Hamburg) was second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.83). In addition, the combination of senior Katherine Harris (Long Beach), Auer, junior Chrisanna Hickey (Hopewell Junction/John Jay East Fishkill) and Culmo finished second in the 200-yard medley relay (1:53.81), while Evans, sophomore Krista Caputo (Staten Island/Curtis), freshman Chelsey Simon (Oneida) and Culmo finished behind a New Paltz exhibition entry with a time of 3:45.43.
