Four Multiple Winners Lead Cortland Women Past Oswego, 139-86

Sarah Culmo won both the 50-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle
OSWEGO, N.Y. – Four Cortland swimmers and divers posted two individual victories as the Red Dragon women defeated host Oswego, 139-86, in dual-meet action. Cortland is now 8-5 on the season and will host Rochester Friday at 6 p.m.

Freshman Katie Cornetta (Gardner, MA) won the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:27.45) and 100-yard freestyle (55.89) and junior Sarah Culmo (West Islip) was the 50-yard freestyle (25.09) and 500-yard freestyle (5:35.35) winner.

Junior Chrisanna Hickey (Hopewell Junction/John Jay East Fishkill) touched the wall first in both the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.55) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.66), the latter as an exhibition entry, and freshman Miranda Fergus (Pleasant Valley/Millbrook) won both 1-meter diving (247.95 points) and 3-meter diving (245.60 points).

Other Cortland winners included sophomore Krista Caputo (Staten Island/Curtis) in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.37) and freshman Chelsey Simon (Oneida) in the 200-yard individual medley (2:22.44). Caputo also placed second in the 100-yard freestyle (57.01).

The Red Dragons won the opening 200-yard medley relay as senior Katherine Harris (Long Beach), sophomore Michaela Auer (Oswego), Caputo and Culmo were clocked in 1:55.03, and the 200-yard freestyle relay of Cornetta, sophomore Lauren Kaplowitz (Stamford, CT/West Hill), Auer and junior M.K. Dugue (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) posted the fastest time of 1:44.34 as an exhibition entry.

Junior Francesca Davide (Ossining) finished second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:27.16), freshman Ally Baraban (Melville/Half Hollow Hills East) was the runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke (1:08.89) and Auer recorded the second-fastest time in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.26) as an exhibition entry. In addition, junior Lindsay Wigderson (Webster/Webster Thomas) finished second behind Fergus in both diving events with scores of 214.20 points on the 1-meter board and 214.65 points on the 3-meter board.
