Cortland Men Record Four ECAC Qualifying Performances at Home Winter Invitational

P.J. Flynn won the triple jump with a distance of 47' 3.75" that currently ranks sixth nationally in Div. III
CORTLAND, N.Y. – Four Cortland athletes registered ECAC Championship qualifying performances as the Red Dragons hosted the Cortland Men's Indoor Track and Field Winter Invitational at Lusk Field House.

Sophomore Connor Ten Eyck (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) won the pole vault with an ECAC height of 4.80 meters (15' 9”) that currently is tied for fourth nationally in Div. III and junior P.J. Flynn (Valhalla) won the triple jump with an ECAC distance of 14.42 meters (47' 3.75”) that presently ranks sixth nationally.

Junior Tyler Prendergast (Waterford/Shenendehowa) qualified for ECACs with his winning weight throw of 15.38 meters (50' 5.5”) and freshman Andre Green (Philadelphia/Indian River) placed second in the long jump with an ECAC-qualifying leap of 6.80 meters (22' 3.75”).

Junior Melique Garcia (Watervliet) was one of three Red Dragons to finish in the top four in the 60-meter dash with his victorious time of 7.12 seconds. Freshman Darrius Samples (Islandia/Hauppauge) placed third in 7.20 seconds and Green was fourth in 7.28 seconds.

Prendergast's winning weight throw was backed up by senior Shawn Wilson's (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) second-place toss of 15.08 meters (49' 5.75”) and a third-place distance of 12.99 meters (42' 7.5”) by senior Justin Torres (Rome/Rome Free Academy). Torres also finished second in the shot put (13.77 meters – 45' 2.25”), followed by Wilson in third place (13.50 meters – 44' 3.5”).

In the 60-meter hurdles, sophomore Nick Avossa (Kingston) finished second (8.90, 8.82 in prelims), sophomore Zach Zieniewicz (Seaford) was third (8.91) and sophomore Tom Milian (East Meadow) finished fourth (9.41, 9.00 in prelims). Junior Tom Calandra (Amherst/Williamsville North) finished third in the pole vault (4.10 meters – 13' 5.25”) and senior Erik LeRoy (Kings Park) placed third in the long jump (6.66 meters – 21' 10.25”).

Also for the Red Dragons, sophomore Matthew Savino (Seaford) finished fourth in the 3,000-meter run (9:43.92) and the 4x400-meter relay of junior Steven Damiani (West Islip), Samples, Garcia and freshman Peter Sigona (Auburn) finished third in 3:41.18.

Cortland will compete at the Ithaca Bomber Invitational next Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 2-3.
