CANTON, N.Y. – Junior
Nick Marcantonio (Glens Falls) finished first of 114 runners as the nationally 17th-ranked Cortland men's cross country team earned six of the top seven spots in easily claiming the team title at the St. Lawrence Hoffman Invitational on Saturday.
The Red Dragons scored 15 points, well ahead of runner-up University of Toronto with 49 points. St Lawrence finished third (72) followed by Clarkson (145), Plattsburgh (156), Ottawa Lions T.F. Club (174), St. Lawrence Alumni (177), Le Moyne (232), SUNY Canton (268), and Potsdam (284).
Marcantonio took top honors with a time of 25:45.06 over the 8,000 meter course. Senior
Pat Fannon (West Islip) finished a close second, covering the distance in 25:49.75, while senior
Casey Austin (Pine Plains/Stissing Mountain) was third in 25:49.81 and
Cody Amengual (West Babylon) was fourth in 25:52.80. Junior
Jarred Iacovelli (Manahawkin, NJ/ Southern Regional) placed fifth in 25:23.74. Senior
Tim Lee (West Babylon) rounded out Cortland's top six runners with a seventh place finish (25:29.57).
The Red Dragons head to Easton, Pa., for the Lafayette Leopard Invitational next Saturday.
