GENESEO, N.Y. – Sophomore
Amber Czaja (Cheektowaga/West Seneca East) scored with no time on the clock as the nationally 15th-ranked Cortland field hockey team took over first place in the SUNYAC with a back-and-forth 3-2 win at Geneseo Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons improved to 9-2 overall and 4-0 in the conference, while the Knights fell to 8-6 and 4-1.

Emily Woods (Williamsville/Williamsville North) also scored goals for Cortland. Junior goalie
Amanda Perricone (Bedminster, PA/Pennridge) made seven saves as the Red Dragons won their sixth consecutive game.
Liz Doherty and Kerry Hosford tallied goals for the Knights. Hosford also collected a defensive save as did Bridget McGovern. Goalie Dayna Mercer stopped 11 shots.
Woods gave the Red Dragons a 1-0 lead, 12 minutes, 20 seconds into the game when she scored on a scramble in front. Doherty tied the game with an unassisted goal just 4:10 into the second half before Smith made it 2-1 in favor of the Red Dragons at 41:52.
Hosford tied the game at 2-2 at the 50:46 mark, and when it appeared the game was headed to overtime, Cortland was awarded two penalty corners with no time remaining on the clock. On the second opportunity, Czaja was able to knock a shot in on a scramble in front to give the Red Dragons the victory.
