Red Dragons Swept by Buffalo State in SUNYAC Semifinals

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Samantha Parente recorded a match-high 13 kills as second-seeded Buffalo State defeated sixth-seeded Cortland, 25-20, 25-15, 25-18, in the semifinal round of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Volleyball tournament.

The Bengals (24-9) will face either Plattsburgh or host New Paltz in the championship match Sunday at noon. Cortland finishes the season with a 15-22 record after advancing to the SUNYAC semifinals for the 30th straight season.

Senior Ava Hintz (East Aurora) led Cortland with six kills and five blocks, two solo. Senior Aubrey Barrett (Liverpool) and freshman Samantha Czeczotka (Elwood/John H. Glenn) registered five kills each. Czeczotka finished with a .333 attack percentage and added nine digs.

Also for Cortland, freshman Liz Roberts (Island Park/West Hempstead) finished with 22 assists and eight digs and freshman Victoria Grix (Pearl River) had a team-high 16 digs.

Parente finished the match with a .265 attack percentage. Kelsey Bashore had 35 assists and Rachelle Kelchlin tallied three aces. Hannah Renaldo, Jennifer cecchettini and Kayla Pyc each finished with seven kills and Chelsea Moore led the Bengals with 14 digs. Jessica Crooks chipped in with six kills and a team-best five blocks.

(UPDATE - Nov. 10:  Krissy Silk was named to the SUNYAC All-Tournament Team following the completion of the tournament. Buffalo State won the title with a 3-1 win over New Paltz in the championship match.)
