Kelly Hugo Breaks School and SUNYAC Indoor Pole Vault Record at Cornell

Kelly Hugo's pole vault of 11' 9.75" broke a six-year-old school record and is currently ranked 13th nationally
ITHACA, N.Y. – Junior Kelly Hugo (Highland) set new school and SUNYAC indoor records in the pole vault to highlight Cortland's performances at the Cornell University Women's Indoor Track and Field Marc Deneault Memorial Invitational.

Hugo cleared 3.60 meters (11' 9.75”) to break the previous school and league record of 3.56 meters set by Sarah Kimball in 2007. Hugo finished sixth overall and was the top Div. III finisher, and her height is currently ranked 13th nationally in Div. III as well as being an ECAC qualifier. Senior Christi Nassauer (Mount Sinai) also qualified for ECACs in the pole vault with her seventh-place height of 3.45 meters (11' 3.75”).

Sophomore Gabrielle Conant (Tully) finished fourth in the 400-meter dash in 1:02.18. She was joined in the top eight by senior Liz Henry (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) in fifth place (1:03.30) and freshman Saige Thomas (Elmira/Elmira Free Academy) in eighth place (1:04.28).

Sophomore Erica Wharton (Putnam Valley) finished fifth in the triple jump at 10.55 meters (34' 7.5”). Three Red Dragons placed in the top 10 in the 32-entry 200-meter dash – freshman Whitney Ford (Oswego) was sixth (27.24), sophomore Hannah Anthes (Liverpool) was eighth (27.67) and Thomas finished 10th (27.72).

Freshman Angelique Jean-Charles (Elmont/Valley Stream) finished ninth out of 35 in the 60-meter hurdles (9.46). In addition, sophomore Kenya Outram (Brooklyn/Victory Collegiate) was 15th in the 60-meter hurdles (9.90) and senior Amber Stephens (Stony Point/North Rockland) finished ninth in the long jump (4.96 meters – 16' 3.25”).

Cortland will compete at the SUNYAC Indoor Track and Field Championships next Saturday, Feb. 23, at Brockport. The Red Dragons are the defending league indoor champion. The meet begins at 9 a.m.
