Abigail MacDonald broke school records in the 400-yard IM (4:38.27) and 100-yard backstroke (59.23)

Abigail MacDonald (East Amherst/Williamsville North) recorded two of Cortland's four school-record swims during the second day of competition at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.
Cortland remains in second place out of nine schools with one day remaining. Geneseo leads with 516 points, followed by Cortland with 403 points, New Paltz with 374 and Fredonia with 349. The meet is being held at Erie Community College's Burt Flickinger Center.
MacDonald finished third in both the 400-yard individual medley in 4:38.27 and the 100-yard backstroke in 59.23 seconds to break school records. The previous 400 IM mark was 4:40.70 by current teammate
Chrisanna Hickey in 2011, while the previous 100 backstroke record was 59.57 seconds by Krista Bergquist in 2010.
Junior
Sarah Culmo (West Islip) set her second individual school record in as many days with her time of 1:55.21 in the 200-yard freestyle preliminaries. She finished fourth in the finals in 1:55.32. Culmo held the previous record of 1:55.76 last season. Culmo was also part of Cortland's school-record 800-yard freestyle relay team. Senior
Jessica Evans (Hamburg) led off the race, followed by Culmo, sophomore
Krista Caputo (Staten Island/Curtis) and freshman
Chelsey Simon (Oneida). Their third-place time of 7:52.61 eclipsed the previous record of 7:53.10 by Evans,
Caitlin Lanigan, Caputo and Culmo from last year.
Cortland's 200-yard medley relay of senior
Katherine Harris (Long Beach), sophomore
Michaela Auer (Oswego), Evans and Culmo finished in second place with an NCAA “B” cut time of 1:46.71. Evans also finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (58.57) and Auer was third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.54). Second-place and third-place individual finishers are awarded second-team all-league status.
Harris finished sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.26) and also scored points with a 10th-place time of 1:00.13 in the 100-yard butterfly. Caputo turned in a seventh-place effort of 1:56.92 in the 200-yard freestyle and sophomore
Ashley Sherard (Valley Stream) won the “B” final in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.02) for a ninth-place finish.

Emilee Gottlieb (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) in 16th place in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.56, 1:10.95 in prelims).
