Red Dragon Men Win Four Events, Post Nine ECAC Marks, at Ithaca Meet

ITHACA, N.Y. – Cortland recorded nine ECAC Div. III Championship qualifying performances, including four winning efforts, at the Ithaca College Men's Indoor Track and Field Bomber Invitational.

Senior Eric Banks (Westbury) won the 200-meter dash in 22.66 seconds and sophomore Connor Ten Eyck (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) won the pole vault with a height of 4.70 meters (15' 5”). Freshman Andre Green (Philadelphia/Indian River) captured the long jump at 6.91 meters (22' 8”) and senior Justin Torres (Rome/Rome Free Academy) finished first in the shot put at 14.52 meters (47' 7.75”).

The 4x400-meter relay team of Banks, senior Andrew Greenberg (Suffern), sophomore Rob Schenke (Kings Park) and sophomore Neil Yodice (East Northport/Northport) finished second (3:25.35). Senior Erik LeRoy (Kings Park) finished third in the long jump (6.76 meters – 22' 2.25”) and freshman Julio Melendez (Valley Cottage/Nyack) placed fourth in the 1,000-meter run (2:33.17).

Cortland's other ECAC qualifiers came in the weight throws where senior Shawn Wilson (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) finished fifth (16.13 meters – 52' 11”) and junior Tyler Prendergast (Waterford/Shenendehowa) placed sixth (15.44 meters – 50' 8”).

Wilson also finished third in the shot put at 13.79 meters (45' 3”). Junior Melique Garcia (Watervliet) finished third in the 60-meter dash (7.12) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (23.12), and Yodice finished fourth in the 400-meter dash (51.40).

Junior P.J. Flynn (Valhalla) cleared 1.88 meters (6' 2”) to finish fourth in the high jump and junior Tom Calandra (Amherst/Williamsville North) tied for fourth place in the pole vault with a height of 4.10 meters (13' 5.25”). Senior Pat Fannon (West Islip) finished fifth in the 1,000 meters (2:35.85) and sophomore Jon Granger (Ticonderoga) tied for fifth in the long jump (6.46 meters – 21' 2.5”).

Banks placed sixth in the 60-meter dash in 7.30 seconds (7.27 in prelims) and sophomore Nick Marcantonio (Glens Falls) was sixth in the 3,000 meters (8:53.77). Sophomore Zach Zieniewicz (Seaford) was sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.95), and Cortland's second-fastest 4x400-meter relay unit of freshman Keewan Rondinello (Liverpool), sophomore Eric Wong (Massapequa Park/Massapequa), freshman Cole Mensch (Waverly) and freshman Sean Swartwood (Waverly) finished sixth in 3:32.57.

Also earning top-eight finishes sophomore Nick Avossa (Kingston) in the 60-meter hurdles with a seventh-place time of 8.96 seconds (8.80 in prelims) and senior Tom Hopkins (Syracuse/West Genesee) with an eighth-place time of 4:25.91 in the mile run.
